Baked Apples with Kandis Rock Sugar
The cold weather has arrived and I a dreaming about comfort food. For me, there is nothing better than baked apple slices. Today, I want to share this recipe from my hometown in Germany.
For this recipe I prefer tart apples – just core the apples and thinly slice them.
Drizzle 1 tsp of lemon on the apple. Fill the inside of the apple with Kandis rock sugar and crushed walnut pieces. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Place the apples in a deep dish. While the rock sugar will dissolve, the walnut pieces add a nice crunch to the baked apples.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (180 C) and bake the apples for about 20 minutes (until tender).
Serve while hot. I like to add a scoop of vanilla ice cream and sprinkle a little more cinnamon on top. Enjoy!
Tip: In a rush? You can make the dish in the microwave (one apple at a time). Make sure the apple is placed in a bowl. Otherwise the liquid from the apply would run off the plate. Microwave for 5 minutes and serve while hot.
