Steeping recommendations

These tips are general guidelines - we believe this a good way to start your tea experience. After all, it always comes back to your personal preference; whether you prefer a stronger tea or a weaker infusion. If you have any questions about a specific tea or you believe that it should taste different, feel free to email us. Thank you for trying our teas and sharing your tea experiences with us. For the following teas: Bring freshly drawn water to a rolling boil. If your tap water has noticeable aftertaste, you may want to use filtered or bottled water. Use one teaspoon per cup.

Black Teas

These teas should be infused in water that has just achieved a vigorous boil. Steep 2-4 minutes.

Flavoured Black Teas

The taste of flavoured teas is typically not quite as strong as their aroma. But they sure make a fantastic cup of tea and add an endless variety to the tea experience. Use boiling water and let the tea steep for approx. 2 - 5 minutes.

Darjeeling

Best steeped for about 2 minutes.

Green Teas

Green Teas are generally better suited to be steeped in water that has cooled off slightly from the boiling point. An ideal water temperature for green teas is about 80 degrees (Celsius).Pouring boiling water onto green tea leaves can produce a harsh, bitter taste. Green tea should steep 2-7 minutes and the leaves can be reused until the flavour is gone. Jasmine Balls and Jasmine Dragon Pearls can be reused 3-5 times. The second and third infusions produce the best flavour.

Fruit and Herbal Infusions (Tisanes)

Dried fruits and herbs should steep much longer than tea leaves (5-10 Minutes). Even if you let them steep longer than 10 minutes, most won't get bitter but will produce a more pronounced flavour. Milk and/or cream should be avoided.

Chai

For a good cup of chai crush a pinch of cardamom seeds and add them to the milk while bringing it to a boil. Once the milk comes to a boil, take it off the heat and add the chai blend of your choice. Use two teaspoons per cup and let steep for 5 minutes. Strain the leaves and add sugar, maple syrup or honey to taste. Enjoy the chai!
